From August 12 to August 18, 2025, the northern section of Brenner/Brennero station will be closed for one week to allow for essential infrastructure maintenance by the network operator. In addition to the previously announced suspension between Steinach am Brenner/Stenago al Brennero and Brenner/Brennero, rail traffic between Brixen/Bressanone and Brenner/Brennero will also be suspended during this period.
The closure is necessary for major infrastructure maintenance and preparatory work for future railway projects. The following key activities will be carried out:
- systematic maintenance of the track ballast along the line,
- maintenance work in the Fleres tunnel,
- renewal of track sections at Brennero station,
- construction of the connection for the new Pusteria Valley railway via the Val di Riga variant,
- works in the area south of Bressanone station.
The works are being carried out in close cooperation with the infrastructure manager RFI and are coordinated with previously scheduled works on the Austrian section of the Brenner/Brennero line. This allows for efficient planning and acceleration of strategic modernization efforts across the network.
Impact on Rail Services
Regional traffic
On the Bozen/Bolzano–Brixen/Bressanone section, works at Brixen/Bressanone station will affect normal public rail services. Regional trains will operate hourly only:
- Trains from Meran/Merano will depart from Bozen/Bolzano at minute 02 and arrive in Brixen/Bressanone at minute 32.
- Trains from brixen/Bressanone to Bozen/Bolzano will depart at minute 55 and arrive in Bozen/Bolzano at minute 29.
Please note: Passengers continuing to Meran/Merano must change trains in Bozen/Bolzano.
- "Regional Express" trains will only operate south of Bozen/Bolzano and will not run on the northern section during this period.
A replacement bus service will be provided hourly between Brixen/Bressanone (departing from platform B) and Brenner/Brennero.
The timetable for the replacement bus service B100 (Brenner/Brennero–Brixen/Bressanone) is being finalized and will be published soon on südtirolmobil Webseite.
Bike transport: Not allowed on replacement buses.
At Brenner/Brennero station, passengers can continue north with the SV300 replacement bus service operated by ÖBB toward Steinach am Brenner/Stenago al Brennero.
Long-distance and freight traffic
During the closure period, Railjet (RJ), EuroCity (EC) trains and freight traffic will be diverted via the Tauern/Tauri and Tarvis/Tarvisio railway lines, resulting in changes to main long-distance connections.
